Climate-controlled Warehouse Storage
Your belongings will be stored inside wooden vaults at a climate-controlled warehouse facility.
Storage vaults are wooden crates measuring 5 x 7 x 8 ft, specially designed and widely used by most reputable moving companies across North America. A warehouseman will use a forklift to bring a vault to a loading area of a warehouse. Once vault is loaded, it will weigh approximately 1000 to 1500 lbs. It is then closed and moved away to depth of the warehouse by a warehouseman again using a forklift. Unlike self-storage units or storage containers, storage vaults aren’t ideal for people requiring frequent access to stored items. Ask your movers to store the selected items of your choice in a single vault and label it “frequent access”. Warehouseman will keep that “frequent access” vault more readily available for your visits. This will help minimize time and cost associated with your visits.
Climate-controlled warehouse storage refers to a storage facility that maintains consistent temperature, humidity, and air quality conditions to protect sensitive items from environmental fluctuations and damage.
Climate-controlled storage maintains temperature and humidity levels to ensure items’ preservation and prevent moisture-related harm.
Unlike temperature-only storage, climate-controlled warehouses manage both temperature and humidity, making them suitable for items sensitive to moisture items like fine art, books, musical instruments, etc.
Certain items benefit from climate-controlled storage due to their sensitivity to temperature and humidity changes.
To protect your precious possessions, make sure you use climate-controlled storage in Alberta for the following items:

Factors like the item’s value, sentimental significance, and susceptibility to damage from environmental changes determine its suitability for climate-controlled storage.
For high-value items and those with irreplaceable sentimental value, climate-controlled storage reduces the risk of damage over time.
Moisture and humidity affect your belongings differently. Here is what can happen to certain items if left to the mercy of moisture and humidity:
- Wood furniture or instruments – When temperatures fluctuate, wood furniture and instruments contract and expand which can cause damage. If humidity levels aren’t between 30 to 50%, wood rot and mold can occur.
- Electronics – Whether they’re computers, cameras, or speakers, keeping moisture and humidity in check keeps your electronics from corroding or growing mould. We recommend storing electronics between 10 – 25˚C or 30 – 60% relative humidity. It is also important to ensure temperatures are consistent and do not reach extreme cold or heat as electronic screens are prone to cracking when exposed to such variation.
- Artwork – Like electronics, artwork can shrink and expand as temperatures fluctuate. Mold and mildew can grow if there is too much moisture in the air. Be sure to keep artwork stored between 15 to 25˚C with around 50% relative humidity.
- Metals – Various metals will react to the level of moisture in a storage environment. For example, copper turns green, iron rusts, and silver blackens. Storing your metal belongings at around 0 to 25˚F and 35 to 55% relative humidity can keep them in good condition.
- Vinyl records – If temperatures get too high, your vinyl records can warp and distort in shape making them impossible to play. When temperatures are too low, records can become brittle and break in half. Be sure to store your vinyl records at 15 to 23˚C and 45 to 60% relative humidity.
- Wines – Wine is a difficult liquid to store which is why so many people opt for specifically designed wine cellars. But if you have to place your wine in storage, be sure it’s climate controlled at around 10 ˚C and between 50 to 80% relative humidity. If it gets too humid, the wine will age too quickly, but if the air is too dry, wine corks can dry out and crumble, compromising the seals on your bottles.
For more sensitive items, keeping the humidity around 55% is ideal.

Angela, our consultant, patiently educated me about how the move would work, redid the inventory numerous times with me as it was refined to get the most accurate estimate and walked me through every step. After numerous phone and email communications I felt I had started with the best company for us. Just completed a move from Diamond Valley to Calgary on February 27th and we are so happy we hired Sparta Movers Calgary to help us. This company was professional and easy to work with, starting with Michael who helped us with the inventory list, quote and supplied us with tips to make the move easier. The crew that did the move (Dom, Chuck, David and Zaed) were outstanding. They protected and handled our furniture and walls with great care. All this and they were very personable with a great sense of humour. The crew worked so hard and finished in less time than quoted saving us some cost. We have already recommended Sparta Movers to another person and would definitely hire them again for our next move.

The whole team at Sparta were great to deal with. Having used different movers in the past, I was a bit skeptical. However, Michael was responsive and answered my questions when setting up the quote and in touch with me all the way to the move date. The team that showed up that day were great. Dom and his team were on time, took care and time to wrap and protect everything, and still moved with speed to get the truck packed. When we arrived Dom walked me through liability regarding certain pieces as the stairwells and turns were pretty tight. Still, the communication between Dom, Chuck and Zayeed was great and they managed to get everything up the flights of stairs with no damage. I wouldn't hesitate to call on these guys again and appreciate the care they took with the move.
This is the 2nd time I have used Sparta movers. They did an outstanding job they were punctual, professional and hard working. The three gentlemen that did my move were pleasant and easy to deal with. I will use Sparta again in the future and will recommend them to friends and family. If I would have known prior to renting a shipping crate they offer storage service would have done all through them.
Another moving company didn't show up, these guys were able to help me out right away and did an amazing job! Highly reccomended!
What a pleasure it was to have Sparta move us to our new location.All of the moving crew were so friendly and handled everything with such care, just like it was their own belongings they were moving. The cost estimate we were given by Sparta was spot on, and was also just about half the cost estimated by other movers.
Just finished a move with Sparta. The 3 men were excellent. Went up and down stairs leaving one place and up and down more stairs at the other end, on the coldest day. They were so careful of all my belongings and very polite throughout. The quote given was bang on the final cost. Would highly recommend.
Ryan and his partner (forgot his name) helped me move into a new condo at the end of November and I couldn't be more satisfied with the professional and smooth service they provided. They went above and beyond and helped with zip tying some boxes and gave an extra hand unloading things from the car at no additional cost. Been waiting until the delivery out east and it went off without a hitch today. Nothing was damaged at all and their service at the delivery was excellent so I can finally get to write a review to rave about the entire experience. Normally, moving sucks. I've done it a lot, a couple times across country. I can accurately say there hasn't been a single experience as great as this one has been. From the very first email asking for a quote (thank you Michael!!) customer service has been exceptional! He answered all my questions quickly and easily, relieved me of all my concerns. So I booked the move. After that Emily and Taylor helped organize and schedule the pickup and delivery. They were fantastic to work with! They accommodated the issues I had with trying to get there for the pickup, as well as worked with our needs for the delivery. Everything went perfectly. Both the pickup and the delivery crews were exceptional. They were professional, quick, and were a joy to deal with. The pick up crew was very good at keeping me aware of what they were doing and going through all the paperwork for insurance etc etc. The entire experience was just amazing. So much better than I expected, and from reading other reviews, I already had high hopes. You can not go wrong in dealing with Sparta Movers or Great Canadian Van Lines. If I ever need to do this kind of move again I will definitely be contacting them!!

Ours was a 2 day job due to distance. We can't stress enough how absolutely amazing the Sparta team was! Right from the get-go the quotation process was unbelievable! We knew we were getting a proper quote and there would be no surprises. The moving team, both for loading and unloading, were polite, efficient, and had a good sense of humour too! Everything went faster than expected! We've used others in the past but they do not even come close to what we experienced the past 2 days! Amazing job guys!
